You know that feeling when you get in the car, the weather is just the right kind of moody, and as you start the engine, the perfect song comes on—like a soundtrack to a movie?
I love when that happens.
It makes you drive differently, and everything takes on a whole new feeling. Ordinary things one might drive by without a second look on a sunny day now possess some sort of mystique. You whip the car around, trying to find the perfect framing through the windshield you've been neglecting to clear because of how amazing the rain looks, and you try to get the picture.
Sometimes, those moods fit life so well, and even something that seems moody can make you incredibly happy.
Sometimes you chase, chase, chase to try and capture a shot, only to create something that evokes no feeling. And sometimes, it comes out of nowhere, and you can’t grab the camera fast enough. You don’t think about it; you just shoot, and it works somehow. You feel instantly in love with the moment that was just captured... maybe not even the photo, but the moment itself. It feels like it's coming from somewhere else. Maybe it’s just from the back of your brain, but maybe it's something that no one should try too hard to understand and just appreciate it when it happens. That’s what I’m going to try to do.
These shots were all taken in the last week or two, with Mark Lanegan or Nick Cave and the Bad Seeds most likely setting the mood. As I write this, I’m listening to Mark Lanegan’s “Strange Religion”—the perfect accompaniment to these photos. Thanks for looking.
Love that Canal Park shot
you got a thing going on, Dan. consistently. ;-)
